What is the GDPR?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) (Regulation (EU) 2016/679) is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union and the European Commission intend to strengthen and unify data protection for all individuals within the European Union (EU). It is a legal framework that sets guidelines for the collection and processing of personal information of individuals within the European Union (EU). It is a regulation in EU law on data protection and privacy for all individuals within the European Union. When the GDPR takes effect, it will replace the 1995 Data Protection Directive (Directive 95/46/EC).

GDPR will come into effect across the EU on May 25, 2018.
